[EN] Residence status fee increase: ISA proposes ¥10,000–¥75,000 scale — target October 2026.
Japan's Immigration Services Agency presented a concrete fee proposal on June 24, 2026. Change/renewal fees would rise from the current flat ¥6,000 to between ¥10,000 (3-month stay) and ¥75,000 (5-year stay). The permanent residence fee would increase from ¥10,000 to ¥200,000. [EN] Immigration Services Agency: Office Closure during Golden Week (April 29 – May 6).
The Immigration Services Agency and regional immigration bureaus (including Nagano) will be closed from April 29 (Tue) to May 6 (Tue) for the Golden Week national holidays. During this period, applications cannot be submitted, and processing of pending applications will be suspended. If your certificate of eligibility, visa, or residence card renewal has an imminent deadline, please contact us immediately so we can assess your options before the holiday period begins.

[EN] Residence Card + My Number Integration ("特定在留カード") — effective June 14, 2026.
A new combined card, the 特定在留カード (Tokutei Zairyū Card), will be introduced on June 14, 2026. This card integrates the current Residence Card (在留カード) with the My Number (マイナンバー) card into a single document. Key points: (1) The change is opt-in at first — existing residence cards remain valid until their current expiry; (2) New applicants and those renewing from June 14 will be issued the combined card; (3) The card will serve as both proof of residence status and the official My Number card; (4) Procedures at city halls for address changes will be streamlined. Further guidance from the Immigration Services Agency is expected closer to the launch date. We will publish updates as details are confirmed.

[EN] Naturalization residence requirement tightened to 10 years — effective April 1, 2026.
The Ministry of Justice has revised its internal screening standards for naturalization (帰化). This is an administrative guideline change, not a statutory amendment to the Nationality Act. Key changes: (1) Residence requirement raised from 5 years to 10 years in principle; (2) Tax payment verification now covers the past 5 years; (3) Social insurance payment verification now covers the past 2 years. Note: the new standards may apply to applications already in progress. Those who were planning to apply under the 5-year rule should consult us immediately.

【日】帰化申請の審査基準が2026年4月1日より大幅に厳格化されました。
国籍法の条文変更ではなく、法務省による審査運用の見直しです。主な変更点：①居住要件が「引き続き5年以上」から原則10年以上に引き上げ、②納税状況の確認期間が直近5年分に拡大、③健康保険・年金等の社会保険料確認が直近2年分に拡大。申請済みの方にも新基準が適用される可能性があります。5年で申請を検討されていた方はお早めにご相談ください。

[EN] Permanent Residency guideline revised — 3-year visa holders: deadline is March 31, 2027.
The Immigration Services Agency revised the permanent residency guidelines on February 24, 2026. Under the new rules, applicants must ordinarily hold a 5-year residence period status (e.g. 技術・人文知識・国際業務 5-year). A transitional measure applies: those currently holding a 3-year visa may still be treated as holding the "maximum residence period" — but only for a first application submitted on or before March 31, 2027. From April 1, 2027, a 3-year visa will no longer satisfy the maximum-period requirement. If you hold a 3-year work visa and are considering permanent residency, early action is strongly recommended.

【日】永住許可ガイドライン改訂（2026年2月24日）―在留期間3年の経過措置は2027年3月31日まで。
出入国在留管理庁のガイドライン改訂により、永住申請には原則として在留期間「5年」の在留資格が必要となりました。ただし経過措置として、現在在留期間「3年」を有する方は2027年3月31日までに初回申請を行えば「最長の在留期間」として取り扱われます。2027年4月1日以降は在留期間「3年」では原則要件を満たさなくなります。3年ビザで永住を検討中の方は早急にご相談ください。

[EN] Business Manager Visa requirements significantly revised — effective October 16, 2025.
Key changes: minimum capital raised to ¥30,000,000; company must employ at least 1 full-time employee holding a Table 2 status (Japanese national, permanent resident, etc.) — work visa holders no longer qualify; either the manager or the qualifying employee must have sufficient Japanese language ability. Existing holders have a 3-year transition period until October 2028. Please see details or contact us to assess your situation.
